Agriculture: An Overview

Agriculture can be called as a broad terminology, which carries around it  that include livestock farming, crop production, fisheries, and forestry to name a few. For countries like India, Agriculture has been regarded as the backbone of its economy. For obvious reasons, agriculture can be called as the vital human economic activity. The agriculture is an important activity for mankind, which can help in producing the food, fuel, fiber and other things and using the resources around available in the form of land and water. Now, if you talk about the definition of agriculture, the term has its origin in Latin language, Ager means cultura and soil, which eventually means cultivation. In other words, agriculture can be called as the cultivation or the production of different livestock products or crop plants.

There are several crop production that can be produced carried out the process of agriculture. These include Crop Production, Agriculture Chemistry & Soil Science, Animal Husbandry & Dairy Science, Horticulture, Agril Engineering, Agril Economics, Plant Pathology, Botany, Entomology, and Extension Education. This help in developing an all together complete and different branches of agriculture, which accompany these days in a number of Agril Universities in the country. The other term we hear in this field is the Conventional Agriculture, which deals primarily in the farming systems and practices that deal with the crop production as adapted by farmer in any specific area. One can call the field of agriculture to be a business, science and arts and all in one together.

We can call Agriculture to be the cultivation of land along with the breeding of a number of animals and plants. These things are done to provide medicinal plants, food, fiber, and a number of other products to enhance and sustain the life. The field of agriculture always remained the sign of development since ages and human civilization that helped the farmers to create good food and even help the people in the urban areas to sustain. The study dealing with this subject is known as agriculture science. The history of the subject simply dates back to centuries and thousands of years and in the primitive life which we can also called as stone age, man relied more on agriculture apart from hunting the animals in the wild forest. Today, agriculture still remain the source of sustenance and many of the economies of countries in Asia and other places still rely on it.
