In the supply chain, upstream activities involve crude oil refining and steam cracking to generate C5 feedstock streams; midstream processing includes C5 fraction separation, purification, and resin polymerization followed by hydrogenation or modification to improve stability; downstream distribution supplies resin producers and compounders who incorporate the material into adhesives, hot-melt adhesives (HMA), pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA), rubber compounding, road-marking paints, coatings, and printing inks, where the resin functions primarily as a tackifier or performance modifier.
