Sputtering targets are bombarded with high-energy plasma ions within a vacuum chamber, sputtering surface atoms and depositing them onto wafers, glass, metals, polymers, or other substrates. The main forms include planar targets, rotating targets, circular targets, ring targets, and bonded targets. Evaporation materials are evaporated or sublimated through resistance heating, induction heating, or electron beam heating, and are typically supplied in granules, pellets, blocks, sheets, wires, rods, powders, or custom shapes. Product material systems include high-purity metals such as aluminum, copper, titanium, tantalum, tungsten, molybdenum, silver, and gold; various metal alloys; ITO, IGZO, AZO; oxides, nitrides, fluorides, and chalcogenides; and organic evaporation materials for OLEDs, photovoltaics, and optoelectronic devices. Downstream applications cover semiconductors and advanced packaging, flat panel displays and OLEDs, photovoltaics, optical devices, data storage, architectural and automotive glass, tool coatings, and decorative coatings. This report excludes PVD equipment, copper backplates, steel rotating target tubes, process gases, evaporation boats and crucibles, ALD and CVD precursors, conductive pastes, and separately sold waste targets and recycled metals. Price fluctuations in materials such as indium, tantalum, cobalt, ruthenium, iridium, silver, and gold directly alter sales revenue and gross profit margins; revenue growth in some precious metal businesses does not necessarily translate into a corresponding increase in processing profits. Semiconductor and display customers typically require lengthy sampling, installation, yield, and reliability certification processes. Suppliers also bear the quality risks associated with target cracking, nodules, particles, abnormal discharge, and uneven film thickness. Some traditional PVD films may be replaced by ALD, CVD, electroplating, or electrodeposition-free methods. Improved target recycling and material utilization will also reduce the consumption of virgin materials per unit output. Downstream demand will exhibit three trends: high purification, large-scale production, and closed-loop processing. The semiconductor market will increasingly utilize 5N to 6N metals, low-alpha materials, and specialized alloys; the display, photovoltaic, and glass markets will increase the proportion of rotating targets, high-density ceramic targets, and targets for high-generation lines; OLED and precision optics will expand their procurement of sublimation-grade organic materials, oxides, and fluoride vapor deposition materials. Procurement models will also shift from single-purchase material purchases to long-term certification, equipment and process collaboration, target recycling, and closed-loop management of precious metals. Companies with integrated capabilities in high-purity raw materials, material preparation, precision machining, bonding, testing, and recycling will achieve higher customer loyalty.
