This type of device can be used in temperature measurement, temperature compensation, over-temperature protection, circuit bias compensation, battery management, automotive electronics, industrial control, consumer electronics, and communication equipment.
Compared with traditional NTC thermistors, silicon thermistors usually offer better linearity, long-term stability, batch-to-batch consistency, and compatibility with semiconductor manufacturing processes. Compared with platinum resistance temperature detectors, they generally offer advantages in cost and ease of integration, although they typically do not fully replace platinum RTDs in high-precision and high-temperature-range applications.
Silicon thermistors are a steadily growing segment within a mature industry. They are not an explosive emerging market, but they still have stable growth potential, driven by demand from automotive electronics, battery management, energy storage, charging piles, servers, power modules, and industrial automation.
From the perspective of substitution and competition, silicon thermistors mainly compete with NTC thermistors, ceramic PTC thermistors, RTDs, and integrated temperature sensor ICs. Their advantages lie in linearity, stability, consistency, and compatibility with semiconductor manufacturing processes. Their disadvantages are that market awareness and the number of suppliers are generally not as broad as those of NTC thermistors.
