The product is typically supplied as black or dark brown solid granules, powder or bulk material, featuring high mesophase content, high coking value, low ash content, controllable molecular structure and good graphitization performance. Compared with coal-based and petroleum-based mesophase pitch, Naphthalene-based Mesophase Pitch has a more defined feedstock structure, with easier control over purity and molecular orientation, making it more suitable for producing high-performance pitch-based carbon fiber, high-thermal-conductivity carbon materials and specialty carbon-based composites.
Its upstream mainly includes naphthalene, methylnaphthalene, aromatic feedstocks, catalysts, inert gases, reactors and separation and purification consumables. The midstream involves catalytic polymerization, thermal polycondensation, devolatilization, refining and mesophase regulation to produce products with different softening points, mesophase contents and purity grades. End-use applications mainly include aerospace, electronics and semiconductors, new energy, industrial equipment and the defense industry. Product value is primarily concentrated in mesophase content control, softening point stability, low ash and low impurity levels, spinnability, graphitization performance and batch-to-batch consistency.
