When exposed to high temperature, open flame, or battery thermal runaway, the silicone matrix gradually decomposes, while the ceramic-forming fillers, fluxing agents, and inorganic components undergo sintering, melt bonding, and ceramification reactions, forming a continuous ceramic protective layer on the surface and inside the material. This layer helps block the further transfer of flame, heat, and high-temperature particles.
Compared with conventional silicone foam, Ceramifiable Silicone Foam not only retains the advantages of lightweight performance, softness, compressibility, and easy conformity to complex structures, but also maintains a certain level of structural integrity under high-temperature conditions. It can reduce the risks of combustion shrinkage, dripping, and burn-through, while providing thermal insulation, fire resistance, cushioning, sealing, electrical insulation, and thermal shock resistance. As a result, it is particularly suitable for thermal runaway protection in power batteries and energy storage systems.
The upstream materials mainly include liquid silicone rubber, silicone oil, fumed silica, ceramic-forming fillers, flame retardants, fluxing agents, foaming agents, and release films. Midstream production involves formulation compounding, mixing, foaming, vulcanization, sheet forming, roll processing, and die-cutting. Downstream applications mainly include power batteries, energy storage systems, charging facilities, rail transit, industrial electrical equipment, and aerospace, with power batteries and energy storage systems currently representing the most important demand areas.
