Chinese manufacturers have gradually moved beyond traditional PTFE processing into original-film production of FEP, PFA, ETFE, PVDF, PCTFE, and other fluoropolymers. Nevertheless, the key competitive barrier in the global high-end market is no longer simply the ability to produce film, but rather long-term batch consistency, defect control, clean manufacturing, resin-to-film integration, customer qualification, and cross-regional quality-management capabilities.
From a policy and industry-development perspective, the fluoropolymer film market is entering a new phase characterized by simultaneous demand growth and increasing regulatory constraints. 3M has confirmed that it completed its exit from PFAS manufacturing by the end of 2025, including all fluoropolymer manufacturing activities. This not only removed a historically important supply source from the market, but also prompted certain customers to reassess material sourcing, qualification processes, and second-source strategies. Meanwhile, the European Union continues to advance its broader PFAS restriction process.
