According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global Ferrite Heat Resisting Steels market size was valued at US$ 3861 million in 2025 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 4974 million by 2032 with a CAGR of 3.6% during review period.
Global sales of ferritic heat resistant steel reached 1,864,000 tons in 2025, with an average price of US$2,012 per ton.
Ferritic heat resistant steel is a heat-resistant steel with a ferrite microstructure, containing ≥11%-17% chromium. Aluminum (Al), silicon (Si), molybdenum (Mo), tungsten (W), and rare earth elements can be added to improve oxidation resistance and resistance to high-temperature gas corrosion. Its significant characteristics include being nickel-free, maintaining a single-phase ferrite microstructure at high temperatures without phase transformation, having a low coefficient of thermal expansion, and exhibiting excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance due to the resistance to surface oxide scale peeling. It also demonstrates significant corrosion resistance in sulfur-containing media and offers good economic benefits due to its nickel-free nature.
The main raw materials for ferritic heat resistant steel include pure iron, ferrochrome (FeCr), ferromolybdenum (FeMo), ferrotungsten (FeW), ferrovanadium (FeV), ferroniobium (FeNb), nickel (in small amounts or none), and rare earth elements. Compared to austenitic heat-resistant steels (such as 304 and 310S, containing 18%-25% nickel), ferritic heat-resistant steels contain little or no nickel, which is their most significant cost advantage—nickel price fluctuations have minimal impact on cost, and raw material costs are primarily determined by chromium prices. Ferrochrome prices are relatively stable, and ferritic steels have lower total alloy element content (high-purity ferritic steels even reduce alloy consumption by lowering carbon and impurities), making their raw material costs typically 20%-40% lower than comparable austenitic heat-resistant steels.
In terms of cost structure, the production of ferritic heat-resistant steel involves processes such as electric arc furnace/induction furnace smelting, AOD/VOD refining, continuous casting/ingot casting, hot rolling, cold rolling, and heat treatment (annealing/normalizing + tempering). For high-grade boiler steels (such as P91 and P92), additional precision machining processes such as hot extrusion of steel pipes, cold rolling, and normalizing + tempering are required, significantly increasing manufacturing costs compared to ordinary plates. It is worth noting that ferritic heat-resistant steels suffer from brittleness at 475℃ and high-temperature grain coarsening. They require rapid heating and cooling through a temperature range of 475-900℃, and annealing is necessary after cold working and welding. This increases the difficulty of process control and the cost of heat treatment.
