According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global Austenite Heat Resisting Steels market size was valued at US$ 1169 million in 2025 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 1695 million by 2032 with a CAGR of 5.5% during review period.
Global sales of austenitic heat resistant steel reached 534,000 tons in 2025, with an average price of US$2,125 per ton.
Austenitic heat resistant steel refers to heat-resistant alloy steel with a face-centered cubic (FCC) austenitic matrix. By adding high amounts of alloying elements such as chromium (typically 18-25%) and nickel (typically 8-30%), it maintains excellent oxidation resistance, high-temperature creep strength, and good ductility and toughness at high temperatures.
Raw material costs account for 75-85% of the total cost of austenitic heat-resistant steel. The main raw materials include: scrap steel and pure iron as the base material; ferrochrome (18-25%), the core element forming the anti-oxidation protective film, accounting for approximately 20-30% of the cost; nickel (8-30%), as an austenitic stabilizing element and a guarantee of high-temperature strength, accounting for 30-50% of the cost and being the most expensive alloying element; molybdenum (2-6%), used to improve pitting corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength; and microalloying elements such as nitrogen, niobium, and titanium, used to refine grains and improve strength. Because the nickel content of austenitic heat-resistant steel is typically 8-30%, and nickel prices fluctuate wildly (recently by 100,000-200,000 RMB per ton), its cost is highly sensitive to nickel prices—for every 10% increase in nickel prices, the cost of austenitic heat-resistant steel increases by approximately 5-8%.
From a cost structure perspective, raw material procurement dominates (75-85%), with nickel and chromium alloy prices significantly influenced by international mining resources, geopolitics, and the futures market. Energy and smelting costs account for approximately 8-12%, including high-energy-consuming processes such as electric arc furnace smelting, AOD refining, continuous casting, and solution treatment. High-alloy steels like 310S require multiple remelting and refining processes. Processing and manufacturing costs account for 5-8%, due to the high work hardening tendency of austenitic steels and high cold working costs. Quality testing and certification account for 2-5%, with high-end products requiring intergranular corrosion testing, high-temperature creep testing, and third-party certification. It is worth noting that with the increasing scarcity of global nickel resources and the surge in demand for nickel from the new energy industry, austenitic heat-resistant steels face rising cost pressures. Therefore, nickel-saving austenitic steels (such as 253MA and chromium-manganese-nitrogen systems) and ferritic-austenitic duplex steels have become important development directions, capable of reducing raw material costs by 20-40% while maintaining performance.
