The core of the electric tailgate is the electric strut assembly. First, a micro-motor is wound with enameled copper wire and vacuum impregnated for curing. Then, a two-stage planetary gear reducer increases torque and reduces noise, while a flexible coupling buffers NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness). The reducer output drives a precision lead screw, which in turn drives a guide tube for axial extension and retraction. The outer tube of the strut is mostly made of aluminum alloy or high-strength steel pipe, laser-welded and sealed with an integrated waterproof corrugated pipe. The ball joints at both ends are machined, heat-treated, electroplated, and then riveted or pressed together. An internal Hall sensor provides position and speed feedback. The controller PCB undergoes SMT (Surface Mount Technology) and tri-proof coating before being installed in a flame-retardant housing. The entire strut undergoes full inspection and traceability on an automated line, including pressing, torque locking, lifespan testing, waterproofing, and high/low temperature stall checks.
With the popularization of SUVs and new energy vehicles, this function has been continuously moving from luxury optional features to mainstream models, moving towards hands-free opening and closing with foot-activated and UWB near-field triggering. The tailgate structure itself is accelerating the use of thermoplastic composite materials to reduce weight, and the control module is evolving towards vehicle-domain integration and OTA adjustable anti-pinch curves.
