According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global Air Energy Central Air Conditioning market size was valued at US$ 12619 million in 2025 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 22226 million by 2032 with a CAGR of 8.1% during review period.
An Air-Source Heat Pump Central Air-Conditioning System is a centralized heating and cooling system that transfers heat between outdoor air and a building's water circulation loop. The heated or chilled water is distributed to underfloor heating pipes, fan-coil units, radiators or other hydronic terminals.
The system normally consists of an outdoor heat-pump unit, compressor, air-side heat exchanger, water-side heat exchanger, circulation pump, expansion valve and electronic controller. Indoor hydraulic modules, buffer tanks and domestic hot-water tanks may also be included.
The market covers air-to-water heat-pump systems used for centralized space heating, cooling or combined heating and cooling. Products that additionally provide domestic hot water are included when space conditioning remains a principal function.
Air-to-air split systems, variable-refrigerant-flow systems, heat-pump water heaters used only for domestic hot water, ground-source heat pumps, water-source heat pumps, conventional boilers and cooling-only chillers are excluded.
In 2025, the global ASP was approximately US$6,800 per unit, global sales volume was approximately 1.80 million units, and the estimated average gross margin was approximately 31%.
The upstream chain includes compressors, heat exchangers, fans, pumps, electronic expansion valves, controllers, refrigerants, copper tubing, aluminum fins and steel enclosures. Midstream activities include thermodynamic design, component integration, control-software development, assembly, refrigerant charging, leak testing and performance testing. Downstream users include residential buildings, offices, hotels, retail facilities, hospitals, schools, factories and other buildings requiring centralized heating and cooling.
The market is supported by the electrification of building heating and the gradual replacement of fossil-fuel boilers. Air-source heat pumps can provide more heat energy than the electricity they consume by transferring ambient heat rather than generating heat directly.
Air-to-water systems are gaining attention because they can use existing hydronic distribution networks. In many renovation projects, heat pumps can be connected to underfloor heating, fan-coil units or appropriately sized radiators, reducing the need to rebuild the entire indoor distribution system.
Cold-climate performance is becoming an important competitive factor. New compressors, vapor-injection technology, larger heat exchangers and improved defrost controls allow systems to maintain heating output at lower outdoor temperatures. However, system performance still depends on building insulation, water temperature and correct capacity selection.
The market is shifting toward inverter-driven compressors and integrated controls. Variable-speed operation improves part-load efficiency and temperature stability, while smart controllers can coordinate space heating, cooling, domestic hot water, buffer tanks, solar power and electricity tariffs.
Natural and lower-impact refrigerants are increasing in importance as refrigerant regulations become stricter. Product development must balance environmental performance with operating pressure, flammability, installation requirements and cold-climate efficiency.
Europe remains an important air-to-water market but short-term demand is sensitive to subsidy adjustments, electricity prices and construction activity. Asia-Pacific benefits from manufacturing capacity, urban development and demand for combined heating and cooling. North America is gradually expanding from ducted air-to-air systems toward hydronic heat pumps in new construction and boiler-replacement projects.
