Active automotive shock absorbers are key components in the upgrade of automotive chassis systems from mechanical structures to intelligent systems. Product prices and gross margins are significantly higher than those of conventional passive shock absorbers. Mature manufacturers typically achieve gross margins of 25% to 40% for active automotive shock absorbers, while high-end magnetorheological or active actuator products can reach higher levels.
From the manufacturing perspective, active automotive shock absorbers require high consistency of valve systems, fast response, sealing reliability, long durability, NVH control, and vehicle-level calibration capability. The production process usually includes cylinder tube processing, piston rod treatment, valve system assembly, oil and gas filling, solenoid valve or actuator assembly, leakage testing, damping force testing, durability testing, and electronic control calibration. The single-line capacity of a mature production line is generally 200,000 to 800,000 units per year. Traditional mechanical shock absorber lines can enter part of the semi-active product segment after upgrades in electronically controlled valve assembly, online inspection, and calibration stations, while fully active actuators require stronger system integration and validation capabilities.
