It is the largest and most capital-intensive part of 5G network deployment and directly determines coverage, capacity, latency, energy efficiency and user experience. The 5G RAN value chain starts from RF chips, power amplifiers, filters, FPGAs/ASICs, optical modules, PCBs, antenna elements, power supplies and thermal materials, moves through AAUs/RRUs, BBUs, CUs/DUs, RAN software and system integration, and then serves mobile operators, private-network customers, cloud providers, governments and industry-specific 5G networks.
The market is driven by 5G coverage densification, capacity expansion, 5G-Advanced upgrades, Open RAN deployment, private networks, fixed wireless access and energy-efficiency upgrades. Although the first wave of nationwide 5G rollouts has slowed in some mature markets, operators still need to expand mid-band, low-band, mmWave, indoor and high-traffic-area capacity. Network modernization and multi-vendor architectures remain important opportunities, as shown by recent European 5G and Open RAN contracts.
