Volumetric feeders remain widely used where material bulk density is relatively stable and process accuracy requirements are less stringent than those of loss-in-weight feeding. Their lower cost, simpler structure and limited calibration requirements make them attractive for standard additives and stable formulations.
Single-screw feeders dominate free-flowing powders, granules and pellets. Twin-screw designs are increasingly used for cohesive, aerated or poorly flowing powders because intermeshing screws provide more positive material displacement.
The most important technical limitation is bulk-density variation. Changes caused by hopper level, moisture, aeration, compaction or raw-material supplier can change the actual mass delivered at the same screw speed.

Quick-change designs are becoming more common in multi-recipe plants. Removable hoppers, interchangeable screws and tool-free product-contact modules reduce cleaning time and cross-contamination risk.
Food and pharmaceutical users increasingly require stainless-steel contact parts, smooth internal surfaces, dust containment and easy disassembly.
Plastic processing remains a major application because color powder, masterbatch, fillers and process additives can be dosed directly into injection-molding machines and extruders. Modular systems can combine several volumetric and gravimetric dosing units.
