Vanadium is extracted and refined into intermediates such as vanadium pentoxide (V₂O₅), ferrovanadium, or vanadium metal, which are then reacted with high-purity carbon through carbothermal reduction or direct carburization at high temperatures to produce vanadium carbide powder. The resulting material is milled, classified, and processed into different particle sizes and purity grades before being supplied to downstream manufacturers of cutting tools, powder metallurgy products, wear-resistant components, thermal spray coatings, aerospace materials, automotive parts, mining equipment, energy systems, and other high-performance industrial applications. In 2025, global Vanadium Carbide output was about 30,000 tons with 35,000 tons of capacity, average prices of USD 12,000–30,000 per ton, and gross margins around 34%.
