Thermoplastic globe valves are valves made primarily of thermoplastic plastics (such as PVC-U, CPVC, PP, PVDF, etc.). The valve disc/seat sealing pair can use the same material or incorporate high-performance materials such as PTFE/PEEK to enhance wear resistance and sealing performance. The valve stem (plastic for small diameters, SS316 stainless steel for medium and large diameters to withstand opening and closing torque and axial force) and sealing packing (PTFE V-rings or O-rings, EPDM/FKM) constitute the core motion sealing system. Because gate valves have a more complex structure than ball valves (requiring precise valve disc guidance and seat fit), and the valve body flow channel is S-shaped or angular, injection mold costs are higher, and material utilization is relatively lower.
In terms of cost structure, general-purpose PVC-U gate valves (DN15-50) have a lower raw material cost (approximately $1-2/kg) and a mature injection molding process, resulting in a total cost that is typically 40-50% of that of stainless steel gate valves of the same specifications, but slightly higher than gate valves of the same material (due to structural complexity). High-performance PVDF gate valves (especially those with metal flange frames, DN80 and above) have a higher material cost ($15-30/kg) and require precision machining (high precision is required between the valve seat and valve disc, often requiring turning or grinding), making their cost close to that of stainless steel valves. However, their superior sealing and regulating performance (achieving precise flow control, which is difficult to achieve with plastic gate valves) commands a premium in the chemical control field. Furthermore, high-precision needle gate valves (DN6-25) with PTFE sealing surfaces have processing and assembly costs that are 20-30% higher than ordinary gate valves due to the need for micro-flow control, resulting in significantly higher pricing in the laboratory and instrumentation markets compared to industrial-grade valves.
