A smart battery isolator is an advanced battery management system that automatically disconnects the auxiliary battery when the system voltage drops below a certain threshold to preserve the charge of the starting battery. It automatically reconnects the auxiliary battery when the system voltage returns to normal levels. The main benefits of smart battery isolators include flexibility, simple installation, small size, light weight, no efficiency loss caused by diodes, allowing bidirectional charging (from the alternator or shore power), and reducing the load on the charging system by not connecting the auxiliary battery until the main battery is fully charged, thereby extending the life of expensive charging components.
