Its function is to combine high-vacuum integrity, low particle generation, low leak rate, and long cycle life with fast actuation. Typical designs use an aluminum or stainless-steel body, welded bellows, FKM/Kalrez-type seals, pneumatic or electric actuation, and position sensing; representative specifications reach high vacuum down to about 1×10^-9 mbar, pressure up to about 1.2 bar(abs), helium leak rates around 1×10^-9 mbar·L/s, and cycle life from roughly 1 million to 3 million+ cycles. Main applications include etch, CVD, PVD/sputter, ALD, metrology/inspection, and other cluster-tool vacuum transfer environments. The upstream value chain includes precision machining, surface treatment, vacuum bellows, elastomer/perfluoroelastomer seals, actuators, sensors, and controls; midstream is clean-vacuum valve manufacturing and qualification; downstream customers are semiconductor equipment OEMs, subsystem integrators, and fabs/IDMs/memory/advanced-packaging manufacturers.
