Compared with ordinary kraft packaging paper, sack kraft paper places much greater emphasis on tensile strength, elongation, tear resistance, porosity, drop resistance and high-speed bag converting and filling performance. It must withstand mechanical stress during powder or granular-product filling, stacking, transport and handling, while also supporting printing, valve sealing, moisture-barrier lamination and food-contact requirements where needed. Industry product ranges commonly include flat sack kraft paper, semi-extensible grades, fully extensible grades, high-porosity grades and wet-strength grades, with different grades serving different filling speeds, load requirements and end-use sectors.
In terms of industry trends, sack kraft paper is moving toward higher strength at lower grammage, higher extensibility, higher porosity, recyclability, food-contact suitability, one-ply structures and lower-plastic heavy-duty packaging. Traditional heavy-duty paper sacks often relied on multi-ply structures to provide strength, but improvements in fiber selection, pulping, refining and paper-machine control are enabling some applications to reduce ply count or grammage while maintaining performance.
