An RV reducer is a high-precision reduction device composed of a first-stage involute planetary gear transmission and a second-stage cycloidal pinwheel transmission. It is mainly used between the servo motor and the actuator to reduce speed, amplify torque, improve transmission rigidity, and ensure positioning accuracy. Its core structure typically includes an input shaft, planetary gear mechanism, crankshaft, cycloidal gear, pin housing, output flange, bearings, and housing.

The crankshaft then drives the cycloidal gear to perform eccentric motion, while multi-tooth meshing is formed between the cycloidal gear and the pins, achieving further reduction and high-torque output. Because it adopts a two-stage compound transmission structure and multi-tooth contact mechanism, the RV reducer features a high reduction ratio, high torsional rigidity, high load capacity, strong impact resistance, high transmission accuracy, and long service life.
In terms of applications, RV reducers are mainly used in medium- and heavy-load joints of industrial robots, especially in robot bases, shoulders, upper arms, and elbows, where high rigidity, load capacity, and positioning accuracy are required. They can also be used in precision transmission scenarios such as machine tool rotary tables, automation equipment, semiconductor equipment, and heavy-duty rotary platforms. Compared with harmonic reducers, RV reducers are generally larger and heavier, but they offer stronger load capacity, impact resistance, and rigidity, making them more suitable for medium- and heavy-load robots and heavy-duty operating conditions.
