According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global Rubber Liner market size was valued at US$ 1776 million in 2025 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 2676 million by 2032 with a CAGR of 6.1% during review period.
In 2025, global sales volume of rubber liners reached 940,000 metric tons, with an average price of $1,836 per metric ton.
Rubber liner is a tough, elastic polymeric material used to coat the exterior or interior of vessels containing fluids to prevent corrosion, such as tanks, pipes, and other containers. Rubber linings are used to protect against corrosion, material contamination, fire and explosion.
The core raw materials for rubber liners fall into two main categories: rubber matrix materials and reinforcement/skeleton materials. The rubber matrix primarily consists of natural rubber (NR) and synthetic rubbers (such as SBR, BR, and CR); natural rubber provides excellent elasticity and wear resistance, while synthetic rubbers impart properties such as oil, aging, and chemical resistance. Formulations also require various additives, including vulcanizing agents (sulfur, peroxides), accelerators, antioxidants, reinforcing agents (carbon black, silica), softeners (processing oils, paraffin wax), fillers (calcium carbonate, clay), and specialty functional additives (flame retardants, antistatic agents, etc.). Regarding reinforcement/skeleton materials, pure rubber liners utilize fabric cord layers or steel cables for structural reinforcement. Rubber-metal composite liners (Poly-Met) employ high-manganese steel, alloy steel, or chrome-molybdenum steel as backing plates for the impact surface, bonded firmly to the rubber layer via vulcanization. Rubber-ceramic composite liners incorporate embedded alumina ceramic blocks or silicon carbide particles to withstand environments subject to extreme wear.
In terms of cost structure, the production cost of rubber liners comprises raw materials, energy/power, and labor/manufacturing expenses. Raw materials account for the largest share of costs: raw rubber (natural and synthetic) represents approximately 40–50%; reinforcing agents (such as carbon black) account for 15–20%; various additives make up 10–15%; and skeleton/metal materials (steel backing plates, cord fabric) account for 15–25%. Energy and utility costs—covering electricity and steam consumption for processes such as internal mixing, calendering, and vulcanization—account for approximately 10–15% of the total cost. Labor costs, involving stages like mold design, mixing and compounding, molding and vulcanization, and quality inspection and packaging, make up about 8–12%. Equipment depreciation and mold costs vary significantly: for small-batch orders—since rubber liners are largely customized products requiring molds designed specifically for mill dimensions—these costs can reach 15–20%, whereas for large-scale standardized products, they may drop to 5–8%. Notably, although the initial investment for rubber liners is higher than that for high-manganese steel liners (by approximately 10–30%), they offer significant total lifecycle cost advantages. These benefits stem from a service life that is 1.5 to 3 times longer, installation and replacement times reduced by over 50%, energy consumption lowered by 5–10%, and substantially reduced noise control costs. Overall, the liner cost per ton of product can be about 50% lower than that of Ni-Hard liners and around 10% lower than that of high-manganese steel liners.
