A Rotary Brush Self-Cleaning Strainer is an inline filtration device that uses a motor-driven rotating brush to remove accumulated solids from the surface of a cylindrical screen, perforated basket or wedge-wire element.

Global demand is gradually shifting from manually cleaned basket strainers toward automatic inline filtration equipment that can maintain continuous plant operation. Rotary brush systems are particularly suitable where suspended solids are large enough to be mechanically removed from the screen surface and where frequent filter disassembly would cause unacceptable downtime.
The technology is commonly used for coarse and medium filtration of process water, cooling water, wastewater, irrigation water and liquid food streams. It is generally more suitable for non-colloidal suspended solids than for extremely fine, sticky or gelatinous contaminants.

Filter-element design strongly affects performance. Wedge-wire screens provide high mechanical strength and controlled slot openings, perforated baskets support coarse filtration, and woven or composite screens are used where finer filtration ratings are required.
Users increasingly evaluate total operating cost rather than only equipment price. Reduced manual cleaning, lower production downtime, controlled blowdown volume and longer screen life can offset the higher initial cost of automatic equipment.
Remote alarm contacts, PLC communication, motor-status monitoring and maintenance counters are gradually being added to standard control systems. Connected monitoring is particularly valuable for unattended pumping stations, irrigation networks and distributed industrial-water systems.
Asia-Pacific is expected to maintain relatively rapid growth because of industrial-water investment, manufacturing expansion and the increasing export capability of local filter manufacturers. Europe has strong demand from hygienic food and beverage processing, while North America is supported by cooling-water, process-water and wastewater applications. The Middle East remains an important market for irrigation, intake-water and water-reuse systems.
