Under the influence of the built-in electric field of the PN junction or an applied reverse bias voltage, electrons and holes drift to the N-region and P-region respectively, forming a photocurrent, thereby achieving the conversion of optical signals into electrical signals. This structure, by increasing the depletion layer width, improves carrier collection efficiency and response speed while reducing junction capacitance, making it widely applicable in high-speed optical communication, precision optoelectronic detection, and other fields.
