These fluorinating agents are used in electrochemical fluorination (ECF) or direct fluorination processes to convert hydrocarbon or chlorocarbon intermediates into fully fluorinated hydrocarbons. Midstream manufacturers—mainly specialty fluorochemical companies—purify and fractionate PFHs to high-purity grades. Downstream applications include electronics heat-transfer fluids, semiconductor manufacturing, medical oxygen carriers and blood substitutes, precision cleaning agents, aerospace lubricants, and specialty dielectric fluids, with major demand coming from the semiconductor, medical technology, aerospace, and advanced electronics industries. In 2025, global Perfluorinated Hydrocarbon output was about 70,000 tons with 110,000 tons of capacity, average prices of USD 9,000 – 15,000 per ton, and gross margins around 36%.
