In the midstream, these intermediates are processed through carbothermal and/or nitridation reactions under high-temperature controlled atmospheres to produce niobium carbonitride powders or sintered materials. Downstream, Nb(C,N) is integrated into steelmaking (microalloying), powder metallurgy, hard coatings (e.g., PVD/CVD), and advanced ceramics manufacturing, supplying industries such as construction, energy, transportation, and precision machining. In 2025, global Niobium Carbonitride output was about 12,000 tons with 16,000 tons of capacity, average prices of USD 18,000–50,000 per ton, and gross margins around 38%.
