According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global Mixed Refrigerant Refrigeration market size was valued at US$ 869 million in 2025 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 1613 million by 2032 with a CAGR of 9.7% during review period.
Mixed Refrigerant Refrigeration (MR Refrigeration) refers to a refrigeration technology that uses a blend of two or more refrigerants with specific compositions to achieve efficient cooling. Different components evaporate and condense at different temperature ranges, enabling better temperature matching and improved thermodynamic efficiency. Compared with single-component refrigerants, mixed refrigerants offer lower energy consumption and superior performance in cryogenic and industrial cooling applications. The technology is widely used in LNG liquefaction, industrial refrigeration, air separation units, hydrogen liquefaction, and advanced cold-chain systems. The upstream of the mixed refrigerant refrigeration industry chain mainly includes suppliers of fluorochemical raw materials, hydrocarbon raw materials, industrial gases, and specialty chemicals, involving basic refrigerants such as methane, ethane, propane, isobutane, R32, R125, and R134a. The midstream mainly consists of mixed refrigerant producers, refrigerant formulation developers, and refrigeration equipment manufacturers, responsible for refrigerant ratio design, blending production, storage, transportation, and system integration. Downstream applications cover LNG liquefaction plants, natural gas processing units, air separation equipment, industrial refrigeration systems, cold chain logistics, commercial refrigeration, data center cooling, chemical production, and hydrogen liquefaction facilities. In recent years, with the global energy structure transformation and the growth of LNG trade, mixed refrigerant technology has been widely used in the field of natural gas liquefaction. C3MR (propane pre-cooled mixed refrigeration cycle), DMR (dual mixed refrigerant cycle), and SMR (single mixed refrigerant cycle) have become the mainstream refrigeration processes for large-scale liquefied natural gas projects. At the same time, the trend of replacing low-GWP environmentally friendly refrigerants is driving the continuous introduction of new mixed refrigerants, promoting the development of the entire industry chain towards higher efficiency, greener practices, and greater intelligence.
From an upstream supply chain perspective, Mixed Refrigerant Refrigeration systems depend on refrigerant gases, hydrocarbon components, nitrogen, compressors, cryogenic heat exchangers, valves, expansion devices, control systems, stainless-steel piping, insulation, sensors, and safety instrumentation. Representative upstream raw material suppliers include Linde, which supplies refrigerant gases and nitrogen; Air Liquide/Airgas, which supplies nitrogen, ethane, hydrocarbon gas mixtures, specialty gases, and refrigerants; and Chemours, which supplies industrial and commercial refrigerant products under brands such as Opteon and Freon. Downstream demand mainly comes from LNG plant operators, gas processing companies, petrochemical producers, industrial gas companies, cryogenic equipment users, and low-temperature storage or testing facilities. Representative downstream customers include ADNOC, whose Ruwais LNG project uses Honeywell mixed refrigerant LNG technology; Shell, whose Sakhalin LNG and Prelude FLNG projects are associated with dual or double mixed refrigerant technology; and Chevron, whose Gorgon LNG project adopted Air Products’ propane pre-cooled mixed refrigerant process technology. Demand is driven by LNG trade growth, energy-efficiency requirements, compact liquefaction trains, lower-emission plant design, and increasing need for reliable cryogenic refrigeration in energy and industrial applications.
