Heat stabilizers are an important category of plastic additives. Their development coincided with the emergence of PVC and they are primarily used in the processing of PVC products. Commonly used metallic stearate heat stabilizers include calcium stearate, zinc stearate, barium stearate, magnesium stearate, and cadmium stearate. Metallic stearate heat stabilizers cannot be used alone and must be used in combination with heat stabilizers such as β-diketone compounds. Due to environmental regulations, barium and cadmium metal salts face the same ban as lead salts; therefore, calcium stearate and zinc stearate are the main development directions for stearate heat stabilizers. They can inhibit the thermal degradation of polymers (especially PVC) during high-temperature processing, and also have the functions of lubrication, anti-caking, and improving the processing performance of plastics.
