The furnace body is constructed from a furnace shell and a refractory lining to withstand high temperatures and material erosion; large furnaces typically use self-baking electrodes that are sintered during the smelting process; the power supply system relies on the submerged arc furnace transformer to provide a stable, high-current supply.
