According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global Isopentane and n-pentane market size was valued at US$ 563 million in 2025 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 679 million by 2032 with a CAGR of 2.1% during review period.
Isopentane and n-pentane are two saturated aliphatic C5 hydrocarbon isomers: n-pentane is the straight-chain isomer, while isopentane is the branched 2-methylbutane isomer. Both are colorless, low-boiling, highly volatile and flammable liquids at ambient conditions. In the industrial market, they are sold either as high-purity individual products or as customized n-pentane/isopentane blends, mainly for EPS/XPS and PU/PIR foam blowing, as well as solvents and reaction media in polymer production, catalyst carriers, aerosol propellants, R601/R601a hydrocarbon refrigerants, geothermal/ORC working fluids and specialty hydrocarbon solvents. In 2025, global isopentane and n-pentane sales reached approximately 89,673 tons, with an average price of 1,117 US$/ton. The isopentane and n-pentane value chain starts from natural gas liquids, light naphtha, etc.
Demand growth for isopentane and n-pentane is mainly driven by building energy efficiency, cold-chain insulation, lightweight packaging, upgraded appliance insulation materials and substitution toward low-GWP blowing agents. EPS/XPS and PU/PIR foams remain the largest application base, while pentane products offer low ODP, low GWP, efficient foaming performance and attractive economics, supporting their replacement of some fluorinated blowing agents under tightening environmental rules. At the same time, high-purity n-pentane and isopentane are gaining value in polyethylene, polypropylene, catalyst systems, R601/R601a refrigerants, ORC and geothermal working-fluid applications. Market expansion is constrained by flammability, VOC emissions, explosion-proof logistics, process safety and regional C5 feedstock availability, so low sulfur, low aromatics, low moisture, high purity and stable blend ratios are becoming key supplier-selection criteria.
