In 2024, gallium prices generally followed a pattern of initial recovery followed by correction. During the year, prices of industrial-grade gallium and 6N high-purity gallium rose in tandem at one point, but both experienced a periodic pullback in the second half. In 2025, industrial-grade gallium prices generally remained at a low and fluctuating level, while 6N high-purity gallium performed relatively stronger, supported by purification costs, customer qualification requirements, and demand from high-end applications, and showed a certain degree of rebound toward the end of the year.
On the demand side, GaAs demand continues to be supported by RF front-end devices, VCSELs, infrared optoelectronics, and space solar cells. GaN demand is being driven by fast chargers, power adapters, data-center power supplies, automotive power electronics, RF base stations, and defense electronics. Ga₂O₃ remains at an early stage of development, but it represents a longer-term growth opportunity for ultra-wide-bandgap power devices.
On the supply side, high-purity gallium is more constrained by resource availability and policy factors than ordinary electronic materials. Gallium is mainly recovered as a by-product of alumina production and zinc smelting, which limits primary supply elasticity. Since 2023, China’s export controls on gallium and germanium-related items have increased overseas customers’ focus on safety inventories, supplier diversification, and localized recycling systems.
