Midstream processing involves carbonization (typically 600–1200°C), chemical or physical activation to create hierarchical pores, templating (hard/soft templates like silica or block copolymers), and post-treatments such as doping (N, O, S) or surface functionalization. Downstream, HPC materials are integrated into electrodes, catalyst supports, filtration systems, and energy storage devices, with key end users spanning EV batteries, grid storage, water purification, and chemical processing industries.
