Loss-in-Weight Feeders generate a controlled, absolutely constant mass flow, as required in mixing processes or extruder infeed. Loss-in-weight feeders can be used for both small to medium feeding ranges. They work with extreme precision under optimum ambient conditions. They are very flexible and can handle bulk solids, liquids and even poorly flowing products. They are used in many continuous processes such as feeding extruders requiring a high level of short-term feeding consistency. The main raw materials for loss-in-weight gravity feeders are stainless steel sheet metal parts, load cells, servo motors/reducers, screws, and control boards. All parts in contact with the material are made of 304/316L stainless steel, accounting for approximately 45% of the total BOM weight and about 30% of the cost. Load cells, servo systems, and PLC/dedicated control boards account for another 30%, with the remainder consisting of machined parts, seals, cables, and surface coatings. Since the core metering algorithm and IC control board are designed by the manufacturer and outsourced, while the hardware is sourced from brands like Siemens and Schneider Electric, raw material supply is ample. Price fluctuations of sensors and electrical components have the greatest impact on cost.
