It is used to provide epoxy functionalization to polyolefins and other acrylate resins. Glycidyl methacrylate is used in the production of polymer coatings and finishes, adhesives, plastics and elastomers.
Glycidyl Methacrylate (GMA) is a representative epoxy-functional methacrylate monomer containing both a polymerizable methacrylate double bond and a reactive glycidyl epoxy group. Owing to this dual functionality, GMA acts both as a polymerizable monomer and as a reactive modifier. It can be copolymerized with acrylates, styrene, methyl methacrylate and other vinyl monomers to introduce post-reactive epoxy sites into polymer chains, while the epoxy group can further react with carboxyl, hydroxyl, amine, anhydride and other functional groups.
