The passive nature of GPON means that the network does not require any active electronic components between the OLT and the ONUs. Instead, it uses passive splitters to divide the optical signal into multiple paths, allowing multiple ONUs to share the same fiber without the need for dedicated fibers to each customer.
GPON offers several advantages, including high bandwidth capacity, long-distance transmission capabilities, increased security due to the use of fiber optics, and scalability to support a large number of users.
