According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global FCC Pretreat Catalysts market size was valued at US$ 196 million in 2025 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 254 million by 2032 with a CAGR of 3.8% during review period.
FCC Pretreat Catalysts are a class of refining catalysts used in the upstream hydro-pretreatment units of FCC or RFCC (Residue FCC) facilities. They primarily process feedstocks such as vacuum gas oil (VGO), coker gas oil, deasphalted oil, and cracked cycle oil. By facilitating hydrodesulfurization, hydrodenitrogenation, hydrodemetallization, and aromatic saturation—as well as reducing the tendency for coke formation—these catalysts improve feedstock quality, lower SOx, NOx, and coke generation in the regenerator, and increase the yields of target products like gasoline, diesel, and propylene.
Upstream raw materials primarily include alumina supports, pseudoboehmite, and salts of hydrogenation-active metals (such as molybdenum, nickel, cobalt, and tungsten), along with promoters (phosphorus, silicon, titanium, zirconium) and chemicals required for shaping, impregnation, and calcination. The alumina support determines properties such as pore structure, mechanical strength, pressure drop, and metal dispersion capability, while the metal systems (Mo, Ni, Co, W) dictate performance regarding desulfurization, denitrogenation, hydrogenation saturation, and resistance to deactivation. Since FCC feedstocks are typically heavier and contain more impurities, these catalysts must balance requirements for macropore diffusion, resistance to metal deposition and coking, and suitability for long-cycle operations. Midstream activities encompass catalyst formulation development, support shaping, active metal loading, drying and calcination, sulfidation/activation, and the design of graded loading schemes. Downstream applications are primarily found in refinery FCC, RFCC, and hydrocracking pretreatment units.
In 2025, global sales volume is approximately 12,800 metric tons, with a mainstream average ex-factory price of around $14.8/kg; major manufacturers in the industry report gross margins of approximately 32%–50%.
