ENEPIG refers to a surface treatment process in which nickel, palladium, and gold are sequentially deposited onto the copper layer of a printed circuit board (PCB) using a chemical method. It is a non-selective surface treatment process that achieves excellent electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance, and abrasion resistance on the PCB board through a 10-nanometer-thick gold plating layer and a 50-nanometer-thick palladium plating layer. The upstream sources mainly consist of metals such as nickel salts (e.g., nickel sulfate), palladium salts, and gold salts. ENEPIG is considered the "gold standard" for high-reliability electronic product surfaces due to its excellent solderability, linearity, and good flatness.In 2025, global sales are projected to be approximately 15,200 tons, with an average market price of around $10,700 per ton. ENEPIG, compared to ENIG, has an additional palladium layer between the nickel and gold layers. This palladium layer acts as both a barrier layer and provides soldering and bonding capabilities. It further protects the nickel layer from corrosion and prevents the black pad issue that can occur with ENIG surface treatment, significantly improving the functionality and reliability of the product.With the gradual phasing out of traditional SnPb solder, terminal surface treatments must meet RoHS and other hazardous substance restrictions while also being compatible with lead-free solder. ENEPIG is widely considered a RoHS-compliant, general-purpose lead-free surface treatment solution.
