Easy-Clean Coating for Solar Glass refers to a transparent functional coating applied to photovoltaic cover glass, solar-module glass, concentrating-solar mirrors, or other solar-energy glass surfaces to reduce the adhesion of dust, sand, salts, water stains, organic contaminants, and environmental pollutants.
The market mainly includes hydrophobic, superhydrophobic, hydrophilic, superhydrophilic, photocatalytic, antistatic, and multifunctional anti-soiling coatings. Hydrophobic coatings reduce surface energy and promote water beading and roll-off. Hydrophilic coatings allow water to spread across the surface and carry away contamination. Photocatalytic coatings, commonly based on titanium-dioxide technology, use light energy to decompose certain organic contaminants and may simultaneously create a superhydrophilic surface.
Conventional anti-reflective coatings without anti-soiling or easy-clean functionality, solar-glass substrates, fully coated solar-glass sheets, solar-panel cleaning chemicals, cleaning robots, removable protective films, and coating-application services are excluded.

The upstream industry chain includes colloidal silica, siloxanes, silanes, titanium-dioxide nanoparticles, hybrid inorganic–organic polymers, fluorine-free repellency materials, catalysts, dispersants, solvents, water-based carriers, adhesion promoters, stabilizers, and packaging materials.
The midstream includes formulation development, nanoparticle dispersion, sol–gel preparation, surface-functional material synthesis, filtration, blending, quality testing, optical-transmission testing, contact-angle testing, weathering validation, filling, and technical application support.
The downstream mainly covers utility-scale photovoltaic power plants, commercial and industrial photovoltaic systems, residential photovoltaic systems, building-integrated photovoltaics, concentrating solar power, and solar-thermal systems.
Rapid expansion of photovoltaic installations is increasing the total exposed solar-glass area, while dust, sand, industrial particles, sea salt, mineral deposits, pollen, and organic contamination continue to reduce optical transmission and increase cleaning requirements.
Easy-clean coatings are receiving greater attention in dry and water-stressed regions because reducing particle adhesion may lower cleaning frequency, water consumption, labor requirements, and the risk of abrasion caused by repeated mechanical cleaning.
Commercial technologies follow different surface strategies. Hydrophobic coatings promote water beading and contaminant roll-off, while hydrophilic coatings promote water sheeting. Photocatalytic formulations can decompose some organic contamination under solar radiation. The effectiveness of each mechanism varies according to local humidity, rainfall, dust composition, installation angle, and cleaning method.
Durability remains a major commercialization challenge. Abrasive dust, robotic brushes, repeated cleaning, ultraviolet exposure, temperature cycling, humidity, and chemical contamination may gradually reduce coating performance. Therefore, field testing under the target climate is more meaningful than relying only on initial laboratory contact-angle values.
