The upstream segment of the industry chain primarily involves active materials—such as iron oxide, activated carbon, and composite metal oxides—and carrier materials like diatomaceous earth, clay, sawdust, and plant fibers; some products also incorporate alkaline impregnating agents, binders, and molding aids. Midstream enterprises formulate the products based on factors such as biogas sulfur content, humidity, and outlet specifications, manufacturing granular or pelletized desulfurization agents through processes including mixing, impregnation, molding, and drying. Downstream applications primarily serve livestock farms, wastewater treatment plants, landfills, and industrial organic wastewater treatment projects, facilitating hydrogen sulfide removal for biogas power generation, biomethane upgrading, and combustion.
In 2025, global sales volume is approximately 150,000 tons, with an average selling price of around US$950–1,100 per ton and gross margins for major manufacturers ranging from 20% to 30%. Industry growth is primarily driven by the expansion of biogas upgrading and biomethane projects, as well as the adoption of desulfurization materials with higher sulfur-loading capacities.
