According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global Dichlorotetrafluoroethane market size was valued at US$ 68.94 million in 2025 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 75.47 million by 2032 with a CAGR of 1.3% during review period.
Dichlorotetrafluoroethane is a chlorofluorocarbon compound historically used as a refrigerant, solvent, and aerosol propellant, most commonly known as CFC-114 (1,2-dichloro-1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethane). It is a stable, non-flammable, and chemically inert fluorocarbon with good dielectric and heat-transfer properties, which made it widely used in refrigeration systems, electronic cleaning, and foam-blowing applications before global restrictions under the Montreal Protocol due to its ozone-depletion potential. The supply chain begins upstream with fluorspar (CaF₂) mining and hydrogen fluoride (HF) production, along with chlorine and ethylene derivatives from the chlor-alkali and petrochemical industries. These feedstocks are processed through fluorination and chlorination reactions (often using intermediates such as chlorinated ethanes and hydrofluorination catalysts) to produce dichlorotetrafluoroethane in specialized fluorochemical plants. Midstream activities include purification, liquefaction, and cylinder or bulk storage handling by refrigerant and specialty chemical producers. Downstream historically included refrigeration systems, aerospace cooling systems, electronics cleaning solvents, and aerosol propellants, although today production is extremely limited and mainly restricted to legacy systems, laboratory use, or controlled industrial processes, with many markets transitioning to HCFC, HFC, or HFO refrigerant alternatives. In 2025, global Dichlorotetrafluoroethane output was about 9,000 tons with 20,000 tons of capacity, average prices of USD 5,500 – 9,500 per ton, and gross margins around 23%.
