According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global Centrifugal Refrigerant Compressor market size was valued at US$ 1132 million in 2025 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 1336 million by 2032 with a CAGR of 2.5% during review period.
A centrifugal refrigerant compressor is a turbomachinery-type compressor that uses high-speed impellers to raise the pressure of refrigerant vapor by converting kinetic energy into static pressure. It is mainly used in centrifugal chillers, large commercial HVAC systems, data center cooling, industrial process cooling, district cooling, hospitals, airports, electronics manufacturing, and food and beverage facilities. Typical components include impellers, diffusers, volutes or return channels, high-speed motors, variable-frequency drives, inlet guide vanes, bearing systems, seals, and control modules. Product forms include oil-lubricated single-stage, two-stage and multi-stage centrifugal compressors, as well as oil-free magnetic-bearing or aerodynamic-bearing variable-speed compressors. These compressors are usually tightly integrated into chiller packages and are designed for refrigerants such as R134a, R513A, R1234ze, R515B and R1233zd(E), with major production and demand concentrated in the U.S., China, Europe, Japan and South Korea.
In 2025, global centrifugal refrigerant compressor production reached approximately 12,000–17,000 units, covering compressors supplied for new centrifugal chillers, oil-free magnetic-bearing or aerodynamic-bearing compressor modules, and selected replacement or retrofit units for existing chiller plants, excluding complete centrifugal chiller packages and industrial process gas centrifugal compressors. The mainstream FOB price was approximately USD 45,000–110,000 per unit, while large multi-stage, magnetic-bearing, dual-compressor or high-capacity configurations could exceed this range.
The global centrifugal refrigerant compressor market is moving from conventional oil-lubricated high-speed machinery toward oil-free bearings, variable-speed drives, low-GWP refrigerant compatibility and intelligent controls. Demand is being supported by data centers, semiconductor facilities, pharmaceutical plants, hospitals, airports, commercial complexes and district cooling projects, where continuous cooling, energy efficiency and reliability are critical. Regulatory pressure is also reshaping procurement: U.S. HFC transition rules restrict high-GWP refrigerants in several refrigeration and air-conditioning applications from 2025, while the EU F-gas framework continues to reduce HFC availability and encourage low-GWP alternatives.
The main constraints are refrigerant-transition engineering, higher upfront costs for magnetic-bearing or aerodynamic-bearing systems, and longer certification and validation cycles across regions. Even so, centrifugal refrigerant compressors remain attractive because of their part-load efficiency, low maintenance needs, low noise, compact high-capacity design and compatibility with advanced chiller architectures. This is particularly important for data centers, healthcare, pharmaceutical, electronics and industrial cooling applications operating for long annual hours.
