The supply chain begins upstream with carbon dioxide sources (industrial emissions, natural gas processing plants, ammonia plants, hydrogen production facilities, and direct air capture systems) and purified water suppliers, along with refrigeration, compression, and high-pressure processing equipment manufacturers. The midstream stage involves hydrate formation through controlled mixing of CO₂ and water in reactors under hydrate-stable conditions, followed by separation, storage, transportation, and handling systems designed for hydrate-containing materials. Downstream applications include carbon sequestration projects, gas storage systems, CO₂ transportation technologies, environmental and oceanographic research, desalination processes, cold thermal energy storage, and advanced industrial gas management solutions. The industry is closely linked to carbon management, industrial gases, energy infrastructure, and climate technology sectors. In 2025, global Carbon Dioxide Hydrate output was about 70,000 tons with 80,000 tons of capacity, average prices of USD 2,500–7,000 per ton, and gross margins around 33%.
