Azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN), the scientific name "2,2'-dicyano-2,2'-azopropane", is the most famous azo-type free radical initiator. It is white columnar crystal or white powdery crystal. It will be exploded when dissolved in acetone and heptane. When AIBN is heated to 100-107 ° C, it melts and rapidly decomposes, releasing nitrogen and several organic nitrile compounds which are toxic to human body, and may cause explosion and fire. It is used in Polymer synthesis, Pharmaceutical synthesis and other fields.
