Aerogel blanket is a flexible, high-efficiency thermal insulation felt that combines nano-aerogel with inorganic fibers and is specially used for power battery modules. Processing and coating mainly prevents fiber dust from falling from the Aerogel product during vehicle driving.

Aerogel blankets for EV are ultra-thin, low-thermal-conductivity mats supplied as roll goods or flat sheets and used as passive safety barriers to slow or prevent thermal propagation at cell-to-cell, module and pack levels. Commercial products are typically silica aerogel impregnated into fiber felts (predominantly glass fiber, with ceramic or polymeric variants) and optionally factory-finished with foil, films, fabrics or anti-dust coatings to meet handling and durability requirements inside battery packs. These are sold on specification—thickness, width/roll format and λ-value—and integrated by OEMs or tier-one pack makers. Sourcing is program-based: multi-year awards following PPAP-like qualification and abuse testing, with high switching costs once a blanket is designed-in. Gross margins for qualified EV programs generally sit in the twenty to thirty percent range, supported by materials IP, controlled powder management, lamination/coating know-how, long validation cycles, and sticky after-award volumes. Regulations are a core demand driver because blankets help manufacturers demonstrate thermal propagation control required by UN ECE battery rules and China’s GB 38031 safety standard.

Third, cost curves are improving through larger continuous lines, regionalization of blanket finishing, and automation of lamination and coating—expanding the reachable bill-of-materials window and reducing fit-up waste.
