According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global Activated Carbon for Organic Solvent Recovery market size was valued at US$ 288 million in 2025 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 394 million by 2032 with a CAGR of 4.6% during review period.
Activated carbon for organic solvent recovery is a gas-phase adsorption material designed to selectively adsorb solvents—such as toluene, xylene, acetone, ethyl acetate, and dichloromethane—from industrial waste gases containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It enables solvent recovery and the cyclic reuse of the activated carbon through desorption processes using steam, hot inert gas, or vacuum. These products are typically loaded into fixed-bed adsorbers or activated carbon fiber recovery units; key performance indicators include working adsorption capacity, desorption efficiency, mechanical strength, low dust generation, and cyclic stability.
Upstream raw materials primarily consist of carbonaceous sources such as coconut shell charcoal, bituminous coal, anthracite, and wood charcoal, alongside binders like coal tar, pitch, or cellulose-based materials; activation media such as steam and carbon dioxide are also employed during production. Midstream processing involves carbonization, activation, and either crushing/screening or extrusion to produce granular carbon, pelletized (columnar) carbon, and activated carbon fiber. Pore size distribution and the degree of activation are adjusted based on the target solvent's molecular size, boiling point, concentration, and the intended regeneration method. Downstream applications mainly involve fixed-bed or fiber-based solvent recovery units. Once saturated, the carbon undergoes desorption via steam, hot nitrogen, or vacuum, followed by condensation, phase separation, and rectification to yield recyclable organic solvents.
In 2025, global sales volume is approximately 95,000 metric tons, with a comprehensive average price of roughly US$2,800–3,100 per ton; major manufacturers typically achieve gross profit margins of approximately 25%–35%.
