2-Ethylhexyl 2-ethylhexyphosphonic Acid, commonly known as PC-88A or P507, is an acidic organophosphorus extractant used mainly in hydrometallurgical solvent extraction. Structurally, it contains a phosphonic acid functional group and a branched 2-ethylhexyl ester chain, giving it both metal-binding acidity and good solubility in organic diluents. In extraction systems, it generally works as a cation-exchange extractant, transferring selected metal ions from an aqueous phase into an organic phase under controlled acidity or pH conditions.
The upstream raw materials of PC-88A are mainly based on the 2-ethylhexyl alcohol and phosphorus chemical chain, including 2-ethylhexanol, phosphorus trichloride or related phosphorus intermediates, 2-ethylhexyl halides or corresponding alkylating intermediates, as well as solvents, neutralizing agents and purification auxiliaries. Downstream, PC-88A is mainly used in rare earth separation, cobalt-nickel separation, hydrometallurgical recovery of non-ferrous and rare metals, battery recycling, and specialized extraction resin or supported extractant systems. Its key value is to improve metal ion separation efficiency, reduce cross-contamination between adjacent metals, and support high-purity metal salt or oxide production.
