Unsaturated Double End-Capped Polyether is a type of reactive polyether intermediate mainly based on polyoxyethylene, polyoxypropylene, or EO/PO copolymer chain segments. Its key feature is that both molecular chain ends are chemically end-capped, resulting in a low residual hydroxyl content, while at least one terminal group contains a carbon-carbon double bond, such as an allyl or methallyl group. By terminal structure, the product can be divided into Allyl-Alkyl End-Capped Polyether, Methallyl-Alkyl End-Capped Polyether, Diallyl End-Capped Polyether, and Dimethallyl End-Capped Polyether. In this context, “double end-capped” means that both ends of the polyether chain no longer exist as ordinary hydroxyl groups, and does not necessarily mean that both ends must contain double bonds.
Unsaturated Double End-Capped Polyether is different from common mono-hydroxyl unsaturated polyethers such as APEG, HPEG, and TPEG, and it also excludes PEG, PPG, polyether polyols, saturated double end-capped polyethers, and downstream polyether-modified silicone oil products. Its core function is to serve as a functional intermediate for the hydrosilylation reaction of hydrogen-containing silicone oil. Through the reaction between the unsaturated terminal group and Si-H, a stable Si-C bond is formed, enabling the production of polyether-modified silicone oil and related organosilicon surfactant materials. Product performance is generally influenced by EO/PO ratio, molecular weight, terminal group structure, degree of end-capping, hydroxyl value, and iodine value, which further affect hydrophilicity, compatibility, reactivity, foam stability, and wetting and dispersing properties.
In terms of downstream applications, Unsaturated Double End-Capped Polyether mainly serves the polyether-modified silicone oil value chain and is further used in polyurethane foam additives, agricultural additives, textile finishing agents, coating and ink additives, and other fields. Its application value is mainly reflected in controllable reactivity, low residual hydroxyl content, and good compatibility with organosilicon systems, which can provide downstream additives with wetting, leveling, foam stabilization, and hydrophilic modification properties.
