Tungsten Electrodes for TIG is the core functional consumable of tungsten inert gas welding (TIG welding), which enhances its electron emission performance and arc stability by adding rare earth oxides such as cerium, thorium, and lanthanum to the high melting point tungsten matrix.
Tungsten electrode is used for TIG welding, which is a tungsten alloy strip made by powder metallurgy method with about 0.3% -5% rare earth elements such as cerium, thorium, lanthanum, zirconium, yttrium, etc. added to the tungsten matrix, and then processed by pressure. The diameter ranges from 0.25 to 6.4mm, and the standard length ranges from 75 to 600. The most commonly used specifications are diameter 1.0, 1.6, 2.4, and 3.2. The shape of the electrode end is an important factor for TIG. When using DCSP, the electrode end needs to be ground into a pointed shape, and its tip angle varies with the application range, electrode diameter, and welding current. Narrow joints require a small tip angle. When welding very thin materials, low current is required. The needle shaped minimum electrode is used to stabilize the arc, while an appropriate grounding electrode ensures easy arc initiation, good arc stability, and appropriate weld bead width. When welding with AC power, there is no need to grind the electrode terminals, because when using the appropriate welding current, the electrode terminals will form a half spherical shape. If the welding current is increased, the electrode terminals will become bulb shaped and may melt, contaminating the molten metal.
