Supercritical Foamed PE is a polyethylene-based cellular material produced by introducing a supercritical fluid, typically supercritical carbon dioxide or supercritical nitrogen, into a PE matrix and then inducing cell nucleation and growth under controlled conditions. In essence, it is a lightweight PE foam in which the pore structure is generated by a physical foaming route rather than by conventional chemical blowing agents. Depending on resin design and product requirements, Supercritical Foamed PE may be made from LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE or modified/blended PE systems, and can be non-crosslinked or crosslinked.
From an upstream perspective, the key raw materials for Supercritical Foamed PE are polyethylene resins (such as LDPE, LLDPE and HDPE), together with formulation packages selected according to target performance, including crosslinking systems, nucleation/filler packages, and flame-retardant, conductive or static-dissipative additives when needed; supercritical CO₂ or N₂ acts as the physical foaming medium. Downstream, the material is mainly used in building and thermal insulation, automotive and transportation, protective packaging, sports/leisure and footwear, and selected medical or healthcare-related applications, because PE foam can combine low weight, cushioning, vibration damping, chemical resistance, and thermal/water insulation.
