It is used as reagent and catalyst in many hydrogenation reactions in organic chemicals. Skeletal nickel is used as a catalyst in the refining process as well as manufacture of chemicals such as sorbitol. It was developed as an alternative catalyst for hydrogenation of vegetable oil in industrial processes. It is also used as desulfurization agent in Mozingo reduction.
