A Rotary Brush Self-Cleaning Strainer is an inline filtration device that uses a motor-driven rotating brush to remove accumulated solids from the surface of a cylindrical screen, perforated basket or wedge-wire element.
Cleaning may operate continuously or be initiated by differential pressure, a timer or PLC logic. Removed solids are discharged through an automatic drain or blowdown valve, normally without stopping the main process flow.
The scope includes automatic brush filters, motorized brush strainers, rotary brush inline strainers and sanitary rotary brush filters supplied as complete filtration units.
Suction-scanning filters, automatic backwash filters, scraper filters, manual brush strainers, rotary drum screens, static basket strainers and separately sold filter elements are excluded.

The upstream chain includes carbon-steel and stainless-steel plates, castings, wedge-wire screens, perforated baskets, woven mesh, industrial brushes, electric motors, gear reducers, bearings, seals, differential-pressure switches, PLCs and automatic valves. Midstream activities include housing fabrication, filter-element manufacturing, brush-mechanism assembly, welding, surface treatment, pressure testing, electrical integration and performance validation. Downstream users mainly include industrial water-treatment plants, food and beverage processors, chemical and petrochemical plants, power and HVAC systems, irrigation projects, pulp and paper mills, mining operations and general manufacturing facilities.
Global demand is gradually shifting from manually cleaned basket strainers toward automatic inline filtration equipment that can maintain continuous plant operation. Rotary brush systems are particularly suitable where suspended solids are large enough to be mechanically removed from the screen surface and where frequent filter disassembly would cause unacceptable downtime.
The technology is commonly used for coarse and medium filtration of process water, cooling water, wastewater, irrigation water and liquid food streams. It is generally more suitable for non-colloidal suspended solids than for extremely fine, sticky or gelatinous contaminants.
The market is developing along two principal product directions. The first consists of large-flow industrial and irrigation filters with relatively coarse filtration ratings and heavy-duty brush mechanisms. The second consists of compact stainless-steel or sanitary units used in food, beverage and process-industry production lines.
Differential-pressure control is becoming the standard configuration for industrial products. Time-based cleaning remains common for stable processes, while combined differential-pressure, timer and PLC control is increasingly used where solids loading changes during operation.
Filter-element design strongly affects performance. Wedge-wire screens provide high mechanical strength and controlled slot openings, perforated baskets support coarse filtration, and woven or composite screens are used where finer filtration ratings are required.
Users increasingly evaluate total operating cost rather than only equipment price. Reduced manual cleaning, lower production downtime, controlled blowdown volume and longer screen life can offset the higher initial cost of automatic equipment.
Remote alarm contacts, PLC communication, motor-status monitoring and maintenance counters are gradually being added to standard control systems. Connected monitoring is particularly valuable for unattended pumping stations, irrigation networks and distributed industrial-water systems.
Asia-Pacific is expected to maintain relatively rapid growth because of industrial-water investment, manufacturing expansion and the increasing export capability of local filter manufacturers. Europe has strong demand from hygienic food and beverage processing, while North America is supported by cooling-water, process-water and wastewater applications. The Middle East remains an important market for irrigation, intake-water and water-reuse systems.
